Beginning of a Blog

The following link directs one to my newly-created blog's first post. This blog, as you'll find out upon reading the post, will focus mainly on music and 'Weekly Playlists'. I'm going to keep it short for now, since it's explained more in the blog. I would really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or requests for any music genres or specific artists to feature in my blog.

Reading the heavy metal blog post as I type this. Nice intro; you seem to know a lot about the history of metal from listening to a lot of variety over the years. I didn't know most of that since I'm pretty ignorant about the origin of music. As somebody who is open to most music genres but has high standards for songs, I will say what I think about the ones you shared. The number ratings I give are based on how much I enjoyed it, not how good I think the song is objectively.

Summertime Blues: The instruments were good, especially the guitar riffs. There was more than enough lyric variation with the vocals, though they sounded a bit oldie and cheesy for my tastes. If I could hear this song performed in person, I would probably get into it. 6/10

War Pigs: Love the slow buildup to the increased pace and beat. The guitar-only parts of the song made it not repetitive, which is what I've been looking for in a song since I've been listening to a bunch of modern stuff. Vocals are great and almost soothing. Very good beat that changes just enough when it needs to. Though I often prefer a faster or more dramatic pace than this, I like slower paced songs when they have the right complexity, which this song achieves. 8.5/10

Angel Witch: Really digging the pace, electric guitar, and beat. Vocals sounded great, but the hook was overplayed which took away from the vocals a bit. Like with a lot of songs in this genre, I can't tell if it's sacreligious or not. But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and say it's not. Very catchy overall. 8.3/10

The Trooper: Intro was promising, then the vocals started, and I wasn't sure where it was going at the very beginning. When all the components came together I was just like "Yesss". Just love how everything fits together. Fantastic guitar rifs and pace. 9/10

Wrath of the Ripper: At 3 minutes and 13 seconds, it seems like they tried to cram everything into a just a bit too short of a song. But the fast "burst of energy, then it's over" style did work for this one, and just shows that there's variation in the metal genre. Fast and fun. 8.5/10

Pain Killer: Wow. This must have been composed by someone very intelligent. Everything fits together so well, and the song knows exactly when to go on a solo and when to do its main thing. However, I don't really like the voice tone that the singer is trying to sing in; if he just tried to sing a bit more in his normal voice and not that higher pitched one, I could get into it more. But I feel like I might get used to this vocal style if I listened to more metal. The electric guitar parts are epic, and make me feel like I'm playing F-Zero GX. 7.9/10

Uh oh, we're venturing into 80s hipster territory. Enjoyed reading the Geckopedia that's before the playlist. School kids are going to find your blog on google results and site it as a source in their topic choice essays, just you wait. Review of the songs based on my enjoyment:

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Lol @ 70s keyboard. This song kinda has the lyric style of a ballad but with the beat and pace of rock. It's chill without being slow and droney. And I'm not sure why, but I like the lead singer's vocal style. I'm pleasantly surprised. 8.5/10

Bela Lugosi's Dead - Was worried when I saw the song was long because songs over 9 minutes tend to lose creativity in composure and become too free form. The vocals don't really get good until quite a ways through, and the vocal composing (not talking about lyrics) was lazily composed; every line sung is the same note and the song just kind of goes on and on. But it does kind of make me feel "chill", and it's good to listen to songs like this once in a while to switch it up. 5.5/10

A Forest - Nice ominous startup! Then... aw yeah the beat comes in 1 minute through in such a pro way. By the time the vocals started I was really feeling it. Everything just fits well, enough said. 9.3/10

Spellbound - Sorry if this is insensitive towards the genre, but the whole way through I was thinking "this is so cheesy and 80s, it's killing me". I wasn't really feeling the hook, which the rest of the song depended on. But the components of the song did fit together quite well. 5/10

Alice - For some reason I don't mind the lead's voice very much. Everything was pretty well composed, though the song decided to only be 3:34 long instead of building up into something a bit bigger. 7/10

The Beauty of Poison - Vocals sound very cheesy, but the upbeat tone of the song makes the cheesiness work. Let's call this the Rick Astley effect. 7.3/10

Lovesick - Gutsy choice of wind instruments; I love how distorted yet not obnoxious they sound. The song isn't too droney like you expect it to be. There's enough variation in the instrument composure. I'm feeling it right now. Vocal style was great and fitting. 9.2/10

I'm pleasantly surprised that you rated these so highly. Most people instantly deny and can't handle many of the goth genres. So hurray!

Also, the purpose of Bela Lugosi's Dead is for it to be atmospheric. It is the epitome of goth aesthetic and atmosphere. I guess this would be why it's worshiped by many goths. It's something you can put on and just be engulfed by the dark and macabre environment it projects.

Also, yes... The 80's was pretty cheesy, but... You know... Hipsters exist today and THOSE guys are cheesy.
Goths reign supreme as a subculture, whereas hipsters... I don't even know what those creatures are.

Love will Tear us Apart is AWESOME. One of JD's best songs by a long shot in my opinion.

Slighttttlyy disappointed I didn't see any scene kid post-hardcore or BMTH type music, but maybe that's just my highscool nostalgia filter. Thanks for the new tunes!

Maybe if ever I do those genres lol. This was death metal
I was never a scene kid so I dunno haha.

I would consider some bands in that style to be death metal. Maybe I have a different idea of death metal.

Maybe deathcore? Death metal is pretty distinct in style. I'm really big on the classic OSDM style of the 80s/90s where it was at its best.

Yeah deathcore is probably a safer genre to put it into. I see the difference, I just didn't know how broad category heavy metal is considered.
